Position: Director/CEO

I Started my career at the Magistrate’s office in Rustenburg while I was studying towards my B. luris degree. I was then transferred to the Master’s office in Pretoria in my 2nd year of studies. It was here that I discovered that my God-given talents of the love for law and figures can join.

After completion of my degree, I continued working at the Master’s office and obtained my SARIPA certificate (then called AIPSA). I dealt with deceased estates, curatorship’s, liquidations & sequestrations and was fortunate to be able to work on a vast variety of matters.

I left the Master’s office in 1995 in the position of Acting Assistant Master. I have worked under very strict but thorough mentors in the industry. I have been assured that my experience and work ethic are of high standards. I was admitted on the Master’s panel in 2000.

I realised the important role that the bankruptcy industry plays in the growth of the economy, and it is my desire to ensure that every matter receives the attention and dedication to achieve the best outcome possible for creditors.

It is from this knowledge and the promise in Luke 5 that the idea of the incubator has started. While I love being personally involved in every matter I am appointed, I came to the realization that God’s purpose for this company is to grow and develop young and upcoming administrators and Insolvency.

“Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted.”

While I am still very much involved in all my matters the purpose is that I transfer the knowledge and skills to create a brighter tomorrow for everyone who is part of my team.

My focus has therefore shifted, and I had to learn how to become a teacher and leader, as I believe in leading by example, I work together with my team enabling them to grow and develop.

Charity begins at home therefore I believe in firstly investing in the studies and development of my team and in that way contributing to a stronger future and building of the economy in our beautiful country.

I am on the National Panel of Insolvency Practitioners and have attended to some cross-border Insolvency matters as well. I am also a junior Business Rescue Practitioner, taking appointments as Executor in deceased estates, curator bonus appointments and acting as a liquidator in divorce matters.

Most of all I am thankful to my Heavenly Father for the opportunity to be able to serve each client with dedication.

I work at Zebra Liquidators (Pty) Ltd as a junior office assistant.

Being part of the Zebra family has been an incredible experience that I would not trade for anything in the world. When I first joined Zebra, I had just finished my contract as a stay-in nanny.

I had no experience or knowledge about the industry, but I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by a team that believed in me and was willing to teach me and be part of my growth in the industry.

I started off as a filing clerk and was promoted to work closely with the administrators. It has been a wholesome experience because I was granted the platform to prove myself worthy, to be challenged, and to build up my self-confidence and use this opportunity. I have been exposed to working and corresponding alongside attorneys, joints, Master of the High Courts, and LBS.

My duties include:

  1. Filing
  2. Following up on meetings and payment details
  3. Preparing releases
  4. Preparing files to be lodged
  5. Preparing extensions
  6. Lodging query answers
  7. Sending accounts to joints
  8. Checking if the first meetings have been advertised.
  9. Doing payment requests
  10. Destruction of files

I will forever remain grateful to Zebra for taking me in and showing me the ropes. I am grateful of who I am becoming, and it is the first time I feel proud of myself as well.

I look forward to learning more and to grow with the company

ARMAND SYMES

Position: Management / Financial Administrator / IT Support and Assistant to Liquidators and Administrators
Email: armand@zebraliq.co.za

She taught me how to eat with a spoon and now I can solve all her technology problems- not my words but those of our director and founder of Zebra Liquidators.

Growing up in an environment where the need to serve and protect was always at the forefront, I realised that this attitude is not only part of my nurturing but also part of my nature.

I wanted to serve my community and decided to follow a career in security and completed various courses in this area. However, my investigative nature and natural ability with technology led my career in a different direction.

I am currently the go-to person in respect of all IT-related matters and ensure that staff members are empowered to help themselves by writing training notes on IT issues that we encounter daily.

Because of my security background, I am involved in the collection and tracing of assets, executing, section 19 and 69(3) orders, and ensuring the safety of all around me.

I also attend to the reconciliation of bank statements and “following the money” to prepare for enquiries. This entails a full investigation of the bank statements of the insolvent entity to identify further I accounts, assets, undue preferences etc.

Afterward preparing these documents in exhibits for enquiries and court cases. I believe in continuously learning and improving myself and will enrol for further courses to ensure that I can do my part in serving the ethos of Zebra and that is to ensure that creditors receive what is rightfully due to them and the best possible service that we can give.

I was recently promoted to Senior financial administrator and am very excited to learn more about the financial part of the business.

I am currently studying towards a Diploma in accounting.

Position: Junior Administrator

Having experience as a preschool teacher I soon learned that even grownups still must feed the child in them.

Despite having no office experience Zebra was prepared to offer me a job as a receptionist and filing clerk and I exchanged the children’s playground for the office environment.

The patience and empathy I learned during my previous career comes into play every day. Everyone is sometimes lost and needs to be pointed in the right direction.

In the time I have been with the company I have received training in certain aspects other than my filing and reception duties and I enjoy learning and broadening my horizons within the organisation.

I was promoted to a Junior Administrator from being a receptionist and am very excited to learn more about the administrative part of the business.

I have also been given the opportunity to work on all the joint files on behalf of the various appointed Liquidators.

I am thankful for this opportunity and cannot wait what the future holds.
